Option B won this Ranked poll with a final tally of 63 votes after 4 rounds of votes counting.
In a Ranked poll, respondents rank every option in order of preference. For example, when you test 6 options, each respondent orders their choices from first to sixth place.
PickFu requires a majority to win a Ranked poll. A majority winner differs from a plurality winner. A majority winner earns over 50% of the votes, whereas a plurality winner earns the most votes, regardless of winning percentage.
If an option does not earn a majority of votes, PickFu eliminates the option with the lowest number of votes. The votes from the eliminated option are reassigned based on each respondent’s next choice. This process continues in rounds until a majority winner emerges.
Scores reflect the percentage of total votes an option receives during the vote counting and indicate the relative preference of the respondents. If there is no majority winner, look to the scores to see how the options fared relative to one another.
Option | Round 1 | Round 2 | Round 3 | Round 4 |
---|---|---|---|---|
B | 45% 45 votes | 46% 46 votes +1 | 50% 50 votes +4 | 63% 63 votes +13 |

definitely figuring out how to properly manage my time, especially with trying to balance work and home life.
My biggest challenges is having enough money to keep the company going, and having enough time to make sure that everything needed for the business is getting done.
Starting up my business was totally time consuming. I found myself having little or no personal time.
Time management was my top choice because time is the most essential asset and yet it was my most limited.
It is always time management for me because there are always things that come up. It is going to depend on how you deal with the things that come up.
These are the biggest challenges I face in terms of starting a business
When I started working for myself and became my own employer my biggest thing was forgetting to make sure I treated myself fairly and was taking work worth doing from clients from not only a pay perspective but also the time involved to make sure it was fair to myself and the client.
Time management was the biggest issue because I still work a regular job as well
It was hard to balance both my personal life and my additional business. This was my greatest challenge
A lot of time management can be hard as well has having enough money. I also think lacking skills and knowledge affects the outcome greatly
I have health problems and had to start my business because I couldn't work a traditional job any longer. My health issues cause time management issues. Regular life disruptions then compound the problem with time management. I also didn't have ennough money set aside when I started out because I didn't consider enough what I needed to make it work well. So, I started out using credit cards to pay for my business expenses, which worked fine until it didn't. I couldn't get a loan to do what I needed because then my identity was stolen and ruined my credit. Without that assistance, I fell further behind and couldn't keep up. Now, I'm MTurking in addition to other work.
Time is the only thing that money cannot buy in todays world.
I still struggle with time management, I tend to get lost in the weeds sometimes.
dependable employees that will show up
A. Def time. I was working elsewhere as well to raise money for the business and managing to work at both was very challenging.
I have ADHD so I striggle with time management the most (option A). I spent too much time doing things that don't create money but that I enjoy doing. This causes admin problems (Option D). Right now I am looking to hire admin people to help. Option C is easily solve by learning new skills on YouTube. Option B isn't a problem because I do $0 start ups. Option E would be motivation to keep going past imposter syndrome
time mgmt is hard, admin issues to get systems in place, esp if you're not a n organized person. Money is an issue, as is easy access to financing. And if you don't have the knowledge or skills, you probably shouldn't start that business
Running out of time to do stuff yourself is the number one issue.
It's hard to get a business started when you still have to work long hours to pay living expenses.
I believe that money is the central issue when trying to get a business off the ground.
I think the biggest challenge will always be that people never have enough money to start. Then it becomes a thing of creativity.
I think definitely not having enough money was the biggest challenge because you need to be willing to spend some money to get it off the ground. If you don't have that it could be very challenging.
I'm way too poor to start my own business
Years ago I went into business for myself doing computer repair. The problem I had was having enough money to survive while supporting the business.
Funding is always the hardest, especially at first when your revenues arent the at their most stable.
Money and time re the biggest obstacles always
First it was coming up with all the money to pay for things. Next it was barrelling through the red tape. I picked C in the middle because a lot of things were hidden or things i didnt even know about.
It takes a fair amount of money to start any sort of business, especially if you haven't the ability to do a business loan yet.
B because you don't do the rest without sufficient start up capital for all aspects of your business
Having enough capital was the biggest hurdle when starting my business. Especially if you are planning on having a storefront. I then found that Time management was a huge issue for small businesses because as the owner, I was doing all types of tasks. It hen found option D then option C to be the next biggest challenges.
Between the five different options in regarding the starting of my business, I decided to go with option b as the one that I could relate to the most. Having enough money is always the most difficult part in my opinion. It was the most difficult part for me as well. I never really did feel like I had enough money and I definitely remember a situation where I was always wanting more and more and this was because I was concerned about unforeseen expenses as I was always worried that something I forgot to acknowledge was going to happen. Next, option c fit me the best. The difficult part of how this relates to me is that I always wanted to learn more and no more and I will admit some jealousy over friends and family who had started businesses out of what seemed like thin air. For me, it was about never having enough education and there were just so many things that I did not know. I tried and tried to learn more and more, but I found myself at odds with how open the world is in regards to how much one can educate themselves. Next, I decided to go with option a as time management was another really difficult factor. I had a life where I was going to school and I was also working and I was in a position where I wanted to start a family. Therefore, time management was something that I managed extremely poorly. This was a huge obstacle that was in my way and I am still finding ways to achieve simplicity in my life. Next, I decided to go with option e. I chose this option as one of importance because of the fact that I always had an issue with not only branding of the business, but advertising. Advertising is something that has definitely changed over the years and since I was little and because I am not the most technological person in the world, I found advertising to be very difficult. Finally, I decided to go with option d. Administrative issues is not necessarily something that I had difficulty with whatsoever. I found it easy to do things like balance books as well as balance the budget. Hiring the staff was also very simple in my opinion and therefore, administrative issues was the aspect that I had the least difficulty with.
I think that money was always the biggest issue for me. I wanted to be secure to know that I didn’t need to take any shortcuts.
I have started two major business in my life (i am 43). I had a law firm that had 7 employees and 1000 clients. Also currently have ebay store that has 1 employee me. I have made more in the ebay store than my best years in the law firm. The number one thing i have learned is to much overhead will kill you and too many employees.
Having enough money to get it started, time management to get all the work done while working another job at the same time, doing all the other functions of the company before you can hire others to help.
Being under capitalized was by far the biggest challenge. There were so many unexpected expenses coupled with the uncertainty of income. It was by far the biggest challenge of being self employed.
The biggest hurdle was trying to find an investor. Option E is waiting for state and federal approvals for my licensing.
Getting enough money for funding was the hardest
most direct and reasonable answers that make the most sense to me as it resonates the most
I think the biggest challenge in running a business or anything in life is money
You have to spend money to make money and that is the hardest part at the start - having the money and feeling like you're wasting it.
Not having enough money was my biggest issue - everywhere I turned, unexpected expenses quickly drained the loans I had taken out.
I think money is the universal issue. Having enough capital to subsidize all of my business startup ideas was very challenging and insistently difficult.
You need capital to begin getting inventory and the necessary permits to operate. It takes time as well to generate it. It is essential to tackle the other options that need to take place once the business begins.
There was no other challenge, options B-C adequately describe my struggles, and I ranked them by how impactful they were.
B: Money is the biggest obstacle when starting, and even finding sources of funding is hard for beginners. C: though a person may know their area or activity, adding the business component is a whole new set of skills. D: there are a host of administrative issues that may be unfamiliar, such as accounting or marketing. A: it may be hard to manage all areas of this business, especially if you're stuck doing everything yourself.
You got to have the money and skills first to start any business or you are destined to fail
I picked B and A as my top choices as those are the struggles I have when it comes with trying to run a business.
'Having enough money' on option B is the one that captures my attention as the biggest challenge.
I went with not having enough money as my first option, because not having the money meant not being able to even start the business and file the important documentation for it. Without money, you can't even have an inventory to sell. Thus, I went for option B as my first choice. E is my second choice, because the "other" for me would be applying for the correct licensing, renting a space, etc. Option C is third mainly because I did lack experience and knowledge, and it's always better to stay informed. D and A are my last choices (tie), due to the fact that I didn't have any administrative issues to speak of and my time management is fairly great.
B- regardless of what your business is, you need enough start up money, and it's almost always more than you initially anticipated. A- Getting your business started takes A LOT of time, it's easy to underestimate this. E- Getting your business "out there". C- No matter how much you know, there's always a bunch more you do not know. D- I personally haven't actually had that issue.
its a big issue / average experience so face the problems / below average information that's why deal with it / timing is the most important to take a start / team work is a major factor
First, the biggest problem was option B, having enough money. Then, the next biggest issue was administrative issues because it was difficult to find people looking for a job. Option A is next most challenging. Time management is critical when starting a new business. Next, option C is second to last difficult because I felt like I did have the skills to continue growing my business. Lastly, other, option E, I think finding the best spot for the business is challenging, but the least challenging aspect.
Capital was pretty important.
I would go with option B because I think money is the biggest hurdle and challenge to starting my own business. Option D, C, and A are quite important too but lower on my list.
Money is absolutely the #1 and almost my only issue. I am not working full time, so funds are tight but I spend what I can on my business to get it going. The "other" is not knowing where to start when it comes to taxes and licenses and permits etc. They don't make the information easy to understand what pertains to you, even when there's supposed resources out there to help. I know my product well, I'm detail oriented and resourceful and I have plenty of spare time to devote to my business, so D, C and A are not a problem for me.
My main problem was lack of enough capital. It was such a hectic to get the money that I needed.
Money would be the biggest issue. I do not have a lot of extra funds. Also do not have the knowledge on how to start one. The rest I am not too concerned about.
Not having enough money would always be the hardest part in any business as the economy and market in the United States has been some of the worst it's ever been and it may get even worse. Having enough money to cover all fees, costs, and certifications can be one of the main chokeholds in creating and maintaining a buisiness.
I am excellent at time management, there just never seems to be enough money for anything. My other category is legal hurdles, like the permits & codes and things like that.
I would say that when you start a business the bigger challenges are having enough money and managing the time in which you do everything because you maybe wont have the skills or the knowledge required and will end up with administrative issues.
Money seems to always be the biggest issue. Having enough to buy supply, product, and advertise.
Having enough money, or even knowing where to secure money, I believe was (and is) the biggest challenge I faced. Securing a loan is not easy at all and I had to skip this step all together. Most of the money I gathered was from my own personal savings. Lack of knowledge and skill comes in a close second followed by time management. All of these are massive challenges, but money is definitely number 1.
I do think when it comes to starting a new business, that not having enough money to start it off can be a big factor if it will even get off the ground.
It's tough if you're not already a jack of all trades. You have to oversee everything when starting.
It costs a lot of money to start a business to fund it as well as having enough money to support yourself in case you are not successful right away
I chose option C because running a business on a shoestring budget, particularly one that is online involves having an entirely new skillset.
I feel like I am the stupidest person in the world when it comes to business. I don’t believe in myself either.
When I first starting working for myself I had to look up a lot of information. I had to save up enough money. learn to focus my time on actual work and learn all the boss knowledge I could.
Lack of knowledge is the biggest challenge towards starting a business venture, as it is the know how which 90% lack
Options C and B are very close, but I learned the hard way that option B was caused by option C. Once I invested the time to improve my knowledge and skills, the money started to take care of itself.
The biggest hurdle has been figuring out legislation and permitting, so Options C and D are clearly the biggest barriers. Having more money (B) would have helped solve a lot of issues, while available labor (E) has been quite an issue as well. Time management (A) hasn't really been a big deal for me, since I've done numerous other related jobs already in my life.
There was so much I didn't know. I just picked up the knowledge as I went along, using various sources.
I struggled with lack of knowledge and skills, however, by taking classes and going back to school that help my expand upon my skills. I've been doing freelance photography for 7 years now thanks to investing in my education.
I had to run for a month with no knowledge until a friend came to my aid.
I would say not knowing what I was doing was the biggest obstacle to overcome
Having the knowledge on where to start or finding the specific demographic/need is the biggest challenge.
Once I started my business I realized how many things about running a business that I don't know anything about.
Knowledge and skills are definitely something that was hard for me to have right off the bat
I choose C because I don't have a clear idea about what I was going to do with my business at the beginning
Usually is the case where a total lack of skills prevents success. Also high on the list is being efficient with background processes and money management. Those are the primary causes of failure involving a new business.
C I had knowledge but it was not enough. there were always efficient ways that i did know about.
I would say knowledge was the key thing I was missing. YouTube definitely taught me a lot. Finding a mentor also helped, but that was after I consumed hundreds of YouTube videos. As for other, I think just having the courage to make that leap of faith. But once you do it, it is 100 times easier.
In general, I didn't know enough about the business aspects with regards to taxes, books, etc. I also suffered from cost overruns and time management issues. In the end I simply closed my business as it wasn't going to be profitable.
I didn't have the knowledge i thought i had when starting my business.
I really can't think of any other issues that could come up (E). The rest of them are equally challenging problems for any busienss owner.
I chose option D first because I think administrative issues like taxes were one of the biggest challenges I faced when starting my business. I chose option C second because I had to learn a lot of new information when starting my business. I chose option B third because money was always an issue for my business. I chose option A fourth because I was able to manage my time with my small business fairly well. I chose option E last because the four previous options were the most important challenges I faced when starting my business.
The biggest headaches for me were making, running, and maintaining a website and making sure my SEO works. In addition, making sure I allocated enough time to things like marketing and advertising was also a challenge. I didn't lack skills or money. The "Other" for me would be acquiring enough clients. I had issues with that.
My biggest challenge was all the administrative tasks that I had no previous experience with.
Definitely I started off with no administration, even though it was just me. I was doing things as they happened and not documenting or logging a lot of my work (sales related). Part of that was also why A was a problem for me, because I was wearing all the hats and so I didn't feel I had time to dedicate to organizing everything in addition to doing it. It was working, so I didn't question it. I never had an issue with the skills required or money when I started.
the back financial tax skillls. these were very important and needed to be taught.
I feel that it is hard to find the right kind of market and knowing the demand for it.
Finding customers and spreading the word was the biggest issue.
my biggest challenge was getting clients/lack of sales experience
Knowing it's best to create a minimum viable product and launch rather than getting caught up in perfectionist paralysis.
I have never started a business.
Having the right partners would have helped me tremendously. Also hiring a good CPA would have been critical for me. Having the right knowledge goes along with those reasons.
My biggest issue is lack of knowledge of how to market my product. I am great at what I do but don't know all the ins and outs of how to put myself out there.
Finding new clients would definitely be the biggest challenge for me in starting a new business in my current field, so I put E first, and ranked the other ones based on their relavence for me personally.
I can't decide if it's worth it financially to incorporate or not.
I would have to say the biggest challenge in starting a business is all of the red tape our bloated government has introduced over the decades. This is by far the biggest challenge to overcome.
