It's an interesting idea for an app, and I say that as someone that likes natural hikes and similar outings. The idea itself sounds promising, and at a reasonable price, I'd be very interested. However, there's one obvious issue with this app that I'd absolutely have to know more about before buying into it. That would be the obvious need to have wireless access to take advantage of it, which seems suspect since a lot of the places where you'd use this are, naturally, going to be in rural areas where coverage can be non-existent or spotty. This app would have to have good coverage for it to actually be worth it, and on top of that, it would probably be handy to have a list of destinations that do have coverage so you can check app usage before going. Getting there and finding out post-fact it's of no benefit would be very frustrating.
I grew up on 98 acres of forested land. I can appreciate why people take tours when hiking, but if you're checking you phone repeatedly because of notifications, then you're not really appreciating nature. When someone is talking and providing a tour, it's easier to listen and still see and appreciate nature. Now, if a parent wants their kids to think that they know a lot, they might find this useful. I personally wouldn't recommend it. Instead, I would recommend that the person planning on taking the hike thoroughly research the site beforehand and make note of things they want to point out on the trail. A better app would be one that offers emergency assistance on a trail and warns of emergencies happening as they occur (i.e. predator sightings, weather turning foul, etc). The app would provide an immediate connection to forest rangers or emergency services or perhaps points out locations where hikers can hydrate. That's far more valuable.
This would be very helpful. If it was detailed and accurate and not boring it would be perfect.
I love spending time in the outdoors and would really appreciate an app that lets me get acquainted with the outdoors to help me plan my adventures in advance.
I love hiking and like that the app will work without service. I am not crazy about watching videos during the hike, but would like to before I start the trail. I like to disconnect and focus on walking so I don't trip during hikes, but love the idea of learning more before. I live by the national park and hike there every year. I would be interested in learning interesting things about the trail.
Better if done together.
As a casual hiker, I would want it just for the interface for finding a good hiking spot. Having a premium hiking app would appeal to me but only if it was offered at an upfront payment. The feature where it notifies you when it has something to share about the current location would be a bonus but I'm not sure how much I would get out of it.
I would be very interested I think it fits well with my life
When I personally go hiking I don't want any technology taking me away from nature, so I probably wouldn't use such an app but others probably would that don't get out in nature much. I did think that the neat feature of it is to point out historical things, and also that it would work without cell phone service. Thank you.
Beautiful graphics and grat audio. The description of the app is clear and organized.
The commercial itself was a little weird, and the voice seemed to belittle me a bit, like it was talking to a child. Ignoring that, the app itself seems like a really fun and interesting app that would help me stay on task and keep form getting lost, while giving me interesting things to see and do while hiking.
I would find it very useful if I was an avid hiker. The points of interest along the trail would make the hike more interesting and enjoyable in my opinion. Having updated and current trail maps would be very important and also having the trails in my area on the app would be needed.
What a great idea! I especially like that it works even if your phone doesn’t have service
I would love that, especially if I was with kids. It would make me feel like I’m staying on a safe trail and also learning a lot which I like.
Being a father that loves taking my kids on hikes, this app would be invaluable. We also like to blog about where we go, so this app would be a win win for us.
This idea is extremely useful because the rating star system will allow me to have overall as well as detailed information about the video. I won't have to spend time to do it by myself.
Its very useful for hikers who frequently hiking in remote areas. Its very useful for them to find a way and get interesting videos and stuffs.
I love hiking and this seems like a great addition. I like the trail map and directions as well as the trivia
I doubt I would pay to download an app like this. A lot of this information could be found for free on the Internet. I can research the different hiking trails and plan the routes myself. Many of the popular trails probably have a dedicated website which will have all of the information you will need.
This isn't a bad idea, but this app wasn't made for people like who don't go hiking a lot. I like idea of app telling you interesting areas you can explore and how long a trail can be. The animation is good and interesting.
I liked the idea of this app but it feels a bit redundant. The idea to see where I am on a trail is useful but takes time and data which isn't as appealing.
This app is very useful for the unknown destination and important places to see and know about this even though our phone doesn't have services
Really not that interested even though I hike a lot, both along and with my family. I prefer not to stop and actually hike for the most part, and navigating on my own is part of the enjoyment, so the app wouldn't really enhance my experience.
i think that this app would be helpful if i was touring unknown locations, im not sure how annoying it would be to get those notifications though or if id want to watch a video while im out and about however a decent amount of this seems to be more beneficial then annoying
Not sure what this is asking as the video isn't playing so I cannot accurately rate the question.
I don't like it becuase part of the fun is exploring new places where I don't expect other people have been quite as much. It makes it feel too commercial
An amazing idea and anything that encourages people to get out more I support. Also it could help with safety as well as education I feel
This app sounds very useful and I like that it works even without service. That is a big game changer. The idea is also very sound too. I've gone hiking a lot in the past and always wondered about what I was encountering or what was around the bend. There was a big knowledge gap between me and those who had hiked the trail before or knew more of the history. So having an app that filled me in would be fantastic. The only downside I can see is maybe it giving too much information. Or if it was too active. Part of the beauty of nature is enjoying it and being disconnected so that is why I had to give it only 4 stars. It is very close to being a 5 and I'd be glad to use this app anytime I went hiking. Based on the video it appears to be high quality, functional, and competent. I couldn't ask for more in a trail guide app.
Depending on it's actual accuracy for information regarding specific locations, this would be a great addition to my hiking gear. The advantage of not needing cell service is a huge plus as some hikes will take you far out of cell service area. I'd definitely be interested in learning more about the apps specific functions particularly in flora and fauna identification. There are several Nature ID maps that are not useful and can be dangerous with incorrect IDs.
This app does sound interesting. How does it work without being connected? How far ahead does it need to know about where you you will hike? It would be a really cool app if it could reccommend hikes nearby based on your experiecne. It could recommend dog and kid friendly hikes and give time estimates and time of year best for the hike. It sounds interesting but many things could be added as well.
that's awesome! especially that it doesn't have to have internet. i am just getting into VR and stuff now, but this would also be fantastic using augmented reality later down the road. what if the trail changes though - how are those captured? or if part of it blocked?
I love to hike and TrailTutor would be a great tool to have. I would definitely buy this app. While hiking, I often have questions about what I see. The app working without cell service is a plus.
I think this is an awesome Idea, because it provides lots of information about the trails one is hiking and incorporates the information while being a GPS. Truly is an awesome concept.
I would be very interested in being able to use the Trail Tutor application because I would love to have some short and engaging videos to tell me about the animals, local history and directions when going on a hiking trail in a national park. I think that this application is a great idea and would be a wonderful tool to be able to get the most out of my hiking experience.
This looks like a family app, this will be entertain and bring some amusement and fun time to the family when used, the kids will love it and i would really want to try it with my family, it is appealing and has a reasonable price tag.
What a great idea this would convince me to go out with my family more and do hikes I do think that you need some sort of Easter egg preview that show something cool about the hike so we can make a decision of which one to take.
I think it’s a great idea and would be very helpful. I would want it to focus more on safety and being safe while out on a hike and be more than just a simple map guide. I think having to stop to watch a video might get boring after a while too, especially if it will be bland information about grass or animals. Also, maybe it would be good to have some type of compass and GPS integration to help people hike back to where they began in case they get off course.
I would be interested in using the app. I think that it would be very useful, purposeful, handy, and fun. I think it's innovative, new, and a cool concept.
While I think that this is an interesting idea, it is my perspective that I would want to refer to my phone or digital device as little as possible when experiencing trails and nature walks. I would be much less likely to download this application than I would be to obtain a paper or digital version of a map, or to examine different sites of interest via the internet previous to a trip. I am likely in the key audience for this app, but I am not too keen on purchasing it.
I would be very interested in this app. I think it'd be a great educational tool for people with children. And to help find your way when you get lost on those hard to spot trails. I liked at the end there were they mentioned that the app will continue to work when you don't have service. My advice would be to stress that point even more. Avid hikers will know that many times we are out of phone coverage area and this is a big plus to have the app continue to function as normal in these areas.
I would love to use an app like this and I would definitely use it!
I would be very interested in the app because I love to go hiking. This app seems to be very valuable because it helps me to find my way on unknown hiking trails and also shows me interesting things to look for when hiking. And according to the video I don't need my phone to be connected to the internet. I like the concept of this app a lot.
It would be a useful way to keep track of where I'm going and learn more about the area.
I think this is a great idea. As a hiking family this would be very useful and I particularly like that no phone service is required to have it function. As the mother of two children the part about stopping to see animals and interesting sights would be so beneficial. It is like having a tour guide except you would go at your own pace. I think this would be incredibly popular and more and more families I know are hiking together. It's a useful tool that anyone would be glad to participant in as it's revolutionary and very attractive to chart your own way with extra help.
I like TrailTutor because it gives me a map of the area I want to hike. Also, it has you stop at interesting spots, talks about wild life and unique items at your hiking area. I would like to use this next summer when I go hiking.
I like to go hiking and go into nature to get away from technology. I would not like my phone telling me what to see and do; what to appreciate. I would rather be free to set my own pace and appreciate what I personally find interesting.
Yes! I'd use this. In a heartbeat! I especially like that I can use it when my phone doesn't have service, as this is super common when I'm out hiking. I really like the idea of having an electronic travel guide. I think it would make my hiking experiences much more fun and entertaining. I don't have children, but I can see parents really loving this app. It could teach their kids so much about nature and historic landmarks and so on.
Yes, a virtual guide pointing out points of interest, the highlights of a given trail or area, and working without a signal makes it more attractive; I am interested in future update option and the accuracy of the info provided by the app but the concept is exciting.
This app seems really interesting, I love that it combines the virtual world and the real world. It seems that I would learn alot by using this app while hiking, I will be downloading this to check it out.
Price would be a determining factor here. We don't live in a place where hiking is possible all year round, so there are a few months out of the year where I would not be using this, and wouldn't want to pay for it. It would also depend on whether it could be structured to the hikes I want to take or if I have to structure my hikes around areas that it is already familiar with.
