The description is very important as I need to tell if the product has certain aspects I'm looking for.
The product description should tell me everything I need to know about the product, and the attention to detail in the product description is indicative of product quality.
When I'm not sure if a product is going to be great or not, or I have questions about it, I always read the product description. If it has typos or errors in it, or doesn't give me enough information, I usually do not purchase the product.
I would say that it varies depending on the type of product you are looking to buy. Some products are easier to evaluate and understand based on the pictures alone. However, I would say that overall, the product description is fairly important. Certainly more important than unimportant.

It is also usually a good way to weed out cheap knock off products because a lot of the time the description will be broken English or be random copy pasted chunks that do not flow or go together.
I go by the description most of the time, that and reviews really tell me if I should or shouldn't buy something. The whole idea is to get information about the product and that is how I do it.
